FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about Herbatint and other products Antica Erboristeria

1. What is Herbatint? Is It a new product?
Herbatint is a permanent herbal extract based hair coloring gel with oxygen at around 3% which contains no ammonia. Herbatint gives the hair a very natural color, covers 100% grey hair from the first application and can lighten up to 2 tones. Herbatint is a product and uncontested leader in the field of natural hair dyes and has been for the last 40 years, and is sold in 35 countries worldwide.

2. How often should I color my hair?
If using permanent Herbatint colors, we suggest that you color when you see new growth, usually after 5 weeks. Vegetal Color can be applied more frequently, once a week, or when the color goes away due to washing after 6-8 shampoos.

3. How can I keep my dyed hair color for a longer period?
To ensure lasting results, we suggest that after you use a color shampoo and conditioner with a pH such as special line products tricosmesi Herbatint, including Normalizing Shampoo and Royal Cream use together with Herbatint to completely close the cuticles of hair and fix the color.

4. Why should I use the Normalizing Shampoo and Royal Cream?
Shampoo after dying is absolutely necessary to completely remove the excess dye from the hair so rinsing must be done until the water goes clear. The Normalizing Shampoo and Royal Cream is rich in plant extracts and proteins to protect and nourish your hair and gives it a deep shine. Our normalizing shampoo is designed not to conflict with the color as another type of shampoo would, as its formula, tends to make the color fade. In addition our formula ingredients don’t contain ammonia and the dye has very small molecules, that don’t require a very large opening of the hair cuticle in order to allow the dye to penetrate, as do those with ammonia, it allows their closure (very important when coloring) very gently and thoroughly with the use of our Normalizing Shampoo. The Royal Cream is recommended to nourish (it is a powerful restorative), it is used to add volume and softness to all hair types, but especially on very dry and brittle hair.

5. Is Herbatint tested on animals and environmentally friendly?
Herbatint is not tested on animals and is manufactured according to the highest international standards (GMP).
All packaging used is recyclable throughout our range.

6. What are the differences between Herbatint and henna?
Unlike henna, Herbatint is easy to mix and apply, and has no odor. While henna creates a film around the hair making it impossible for other colors to be used later, Herbatint gently penetrates the hair without damaging it. Herbatint is available in 30 shades of color.

7. Will Herbatint cover my grey hairs?
All of the Herbatint range can cover grey hairs from the first application. If you have 45-50% or more of grey hairs, we recommend to mix the color of your choice (gold, copper or mahogany) with the same number from the natural range. For example, if your choose is the color 6D (dark blond golden) you need to mix the 6D with the same amount of 6N (dark blond) and use a quantity of glycolic equal to the sum of ml used for the two colors. (In fact, color and glycolic are always mixed in equal parts). If you want the 6D to be brighter mix 1/3 of 6N with 2/3 of 6D. In some points grey hair may be particularly resistant. Here are some tips: – When the dye is applied throughout the hair, massage gently on the roots for 5 minutes, on the face and temples – or take 10 ml mixed with 10 ml of color developer and apply to the clear grey roots. Leave on for 20 minutes and then apply your color as normal – Or apply color on the roots to the most resistant areas and using a hair dryer heat gently for about 5 minutes.

8. What are Phenylenediamines, or PPD’s? Why do we discuss it so frequently?
The Phenylendiamines (PPD’s) are the chemical ingredients of the diaminobenzeni family and are precursors of color in the sense that not only do they color but together with oxygen allow you to color your hair. Today the only remaining usable one under current EU legislation, to a quota, is the p-phenilendiamina. All manufacturers worldwide for permanent hair dyes, although with different percentages, use them for their formulas. Our dyes are those with the lowest concentration of PPD, which is on average of around 0.7%. Many things have been written about p-phenilendiamina discussing that it could be “potentially” carcinogenic “to humans, but none of the many studies and scientific tests carried out cyclically by several universities have been able to confirm this link with scientific evidence. However, in the long run to create awareness of allergies related to frequency of use (like hair) or by specific allergy product, we recommend, before using the product, to test, as explained in the instruction leaflet enclosed in the package. It is also important to note that nowadays people suffer from generic problems from allergies are a lot more due to pollution in our environment.

9. Does Herbatint contain the p-phenilendiamina (PPD)?
Yes. Like all permanent hair colors on the market today, but as mentioned Herbatint contains a very low% of PPD, which combined with anti-inflammatory and protective active herbal extracts makes it “the most natural alternative” today in the dye market.

10. I do not want to use a permanent color because I do not like to see a noticeable regrowth.
Herbatint can be mixed and used as a tone on tone coloration that gradually goes away after 16-20 shampoos, there is therefore a less obvious root regrowth. Mixed with, for example, 30 ml of Herbatint with 15ml of detector glycolic and 15 ml of shampoo normalizing. Should be Applied to pre-washed hair, dried with a towel and left on for 20-25 minutes.

11. I have had chemotherapy and I would like to color my hair.
We have no statistics of these cases, although we know for sure (because we have read reports from patients) that many consumers, in a similar situation, have used Herbatint safely. Our advice is, however, to check with your doctor.

12. I am pregnant and I am worried that the permanent hair colors can be potentially dangerous for my baby.
Once again, knowing that many consumers have used it without problems (for example Jane Leeves, the actress from the TV program “Frazier” who has openly declared that her hairdresser has used Herbatint on her hair throughout her pregnancy without any problems) we recommend to verify the formula with your gynecologist.

13. Can I use Herbatint on my beard?
Herbatint has not been studied to dye beards or mustaches and can be particularly difficult to do, however, we know many consumers who have used it successfully. Be careful NOT to use it for eyelashes and eyebrows.

14. I had allergic reactions to dyes with ammonia in the past, could I have some reaction using Herbatint?
If the allergy is caused by the presence of ammonia, you can safely use Herbatint as it doesn’t contains ammonia. Normally consumers use Herbatint without any problem and without suffering allergies, but perhaps it would be wise prior to application to test for allergies in regards to the ingredient used in our products.
